About the Project

This project, also known as E335, included 1.9 miles of new light rail alignment including at-grade track, track within a tunnel, elevated track guideway, retained cut/fill segments, a major cast-in-place segmental bridge, and four passenger stations. The four new stations range in size and complexity, from the East Main Station at-grade platforms to the multi-level Bellevue Downtown Station. The latter is anticipated to become one of the busiest stations in Sound Transit’s system.

Additional work included a north tunnel portal, utilities, civil systems infrastructure, and 0.4 miles of track in the former BNSF right-of-way connecting the alignment to a new operations and maintenance facility. E335 interfaced with five other Sound Transit East Link projects, as well as private and public projects along the alignment. Underground utility work included waterlines, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage. Combined, these required complex phasing and sequencing while maintaining traffic and business access. Trackwork included the construction of embedded, direct fixation, and ballasted tracks. Special track elements include turnouts, diamonds, and a double crossover.
