About the Project

Overview

The project, located in Culver City, California, focuses on improving water quality in the Marina del Rey Watershed where approximately 40 acres of city jurisdiction drain directly into the Marina del Rey Harbor. The project will take place along Washington Boulevard, a major thoroughfare, as well as within the adjacent Costco property and nearby residential streets, with the goal of reducing pollutants in stormwater runoff before it reaches Marina del Rey Harbor and nearby beaches.

Work

The Project will divert stormwater and urban runoff before it enters the storm drain system. The diverted stormwater will then be stored in underground sealed storage tank on an adjacent city street. The diverted runoff/stormwater will then be treated with an inline ultraviolet (UV) treatment system and media filtration system. The treated stormwater will then be conveyed back to the storm drain system. Also, a portion of the treated storm water will be utilized for landscape irrigation at city medians along Washington Blvd. The project will reduce pollutants from reaching Marina Del Rey Harbor and beaches and contribute to water supply conservation.

The majority of the work, including mechanical, structural and pipeline components will be self-performed.

Coordination

This project requires close coordination with the City of Culver City, City of Los Angeles, and the adjacent Costco.  The amount of traffic on Washington Blvd. and the proximity of Costco to the project site makes close coordination with all parties a key component of the project.
