Fort Worth Celebrates Groundbreaking For TEXRail Extension

New 2.1-mile commuter rail extension will link city’s Near Southside and Medical District with downtown Fort Worth and DFW Airport.

Fort Worth Transit Partners, a joint venture of Stacy Witbeck and Sundt Construction, joined Trinity Metro, project partners and community leaders to mark the groundbreaking of the TEXRail Extension in Fort Worth.

Trinity Metro reported more than 1 million rides on TEXRail during fiscal year 2026. The new 2.1-mile extension will connect Fort Worth T&P Station with the Near Southside and Medical District, bringing passengers closer to major employment, health care and education centers. The project includes passenger rail, a center-platform station with a park-and-ride and crew room, signal and communications systems, retaining walls, pedestrian connections, lighting and signage.

Once complete, the extension will provide a connection to bus, pedestrian and bicyclists at one of the region’s largest concentrations of health care providers. By extending service from Fort Worth T&P Station to a new Near Southside Station, the project will provide patients, families, employees, students and visitors with a reliable connection to Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center, Cook Children’s and surrounding medical facilities. In addition, it links the district to downtown Fort Worth, North Tarrant County, Grapevine and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The extension will reduce barriers to transportation and support continued economic development and investment in this vital part of Fort Worth.

“We’re laying the foundation for the Fort Worth we want to become.”

Rich Andreski, Trinity Metro President and CEO

Additional speakers at the event included U.S. Representative Roger Williams, Gail Lyssy, Region 6 regional administrator for the Federal Transit Administration, and Paul Skoutelas, president and chief executive officer of the American Public Transportation Association.

“Good projects start with good preparation and people who are willing to work together. We’ve spent the last few years alongside Trinity Metro, Sundt and our project partners getting the details right, and now we get to go build it. At the end of the day, that work is about giving people a reliable connection to the places they need to go.”

Andy Auxier, Vice President and Regional Manager at Stacy Witbeck

Stacy Witbeck and Sundt have a 20-plus year history of partnering on transit projects with a commitment to thorough preconstruction and clear and collaborative communication to move projects forward.

“TEXRail has become an important part of the region’s transportation network, and this extension will build on that momentum. We’re proud to work with Trinity Metro and our project partners to deliver infrastructure that connects more people to health care, education, jobs and businesses.”

Tom LeBeau, Vice President and National Transit and Rail Market Leader at Sundt Construction

Trinity Metro selected Fort Worth Transit Partners as construction manager at risk for the extension in 2023. Since then, the joint venture has supported preconstruction activities, including design review and preliminary cost estimating, and will lead construction of the project.
